Yay for RCH

Being at the children's hospital has many upsides
for example:

Cake breaks at McCafe

Apparently cake is not enough for some of us...
Di appeared to be STARVING

yes folks....that's both nugget AND fry getting stuffed into her mouth
but yet look at her thinness..... i hate her >_<

Being so close to uni also meant we could meet up with the people doing their Women's rotation

haven't been to union house in what feels like years!

how cute are the boys

and take a look at the ID badge for RCH
it's like.....the bestest badge photo i've taken ever
the photo taking was just like taking those photos in high school.... so much more professional than the admin lady armed with a feeble kodak digi cam

that's hot!

Paeds 101

First week of Paeds is over
hurrah for me getting tomorrow off because this week has been loooooong
we started at 8am everyday
and it was just lecture after lecture
sure it was all interesting and i loved it
but i was still drooping off to sleep in some of the lectures

my group seems.... alrite i suppose
it could be worse

looking forward to next week
i'm on the wards
yay

also looking forward to this weekend
fun to be had :)

onverdraagzaam

strange looking word

words
one must never underestimate their power
even if it's just one

Monday, July 23, 2007

*Screams*

OMG

most of you know by now that i absolutely HATE when people discuss movies/tv shows/books that i haven't yet seen/read
like i don't even want to hear mundane details let alone plot relevant stuff
and MOST CERTAINLY not anything resembling the ending

and so with great difficulty and care
i yelled at anyone within earshot that attempted to discuss the new Harry Potter
and had successfully made it 1/3 through the book

when...
this freaking afternoon
while waiting for the tram
Jia jia and Diana stand there talking about it
and Jia jia freaking starts discussing the last chapter
COMPLETE WITH FREAKING DETAILS
and i'm fully standing there yelling at her with my hands on my ears
and she JUST WON'T STOP
*cries*

and get this
she hasn't even read the book
she bought it
and flipped directly to the last chapter
read that
and apparently made it her life goal to ruin it for me

thankfully i don't think i heard the ending
but i've heard enough to ruin a large portion of the book
BAH

not happy

NOOOOOOOO

My freaking phone has freaking died!!!
Noooooo
that's what i get for buying adorable and cool phones from freaking asia

*sigh*

it appears all new phone numbers obtained within the past few months are permanently lost

so it was meant to be :(

Med Trip

Alritey
i think i'm sufficiently rested to begin blogging about the med trip
twas a fantabulous trip

Day 1:
We journeyed from Melbourne to Bright...

We stopped at Seymour for lunch and the boys did what they do best....be asian

Wait....the sign needs re-adjusting

mmmm much better

Freaking 2 minutes after we left the carpark bloody An-de-rew goes "Hey Nick....help me take the wheel, I wanna take my jacket off"

>_<

our car up to Bright.... i think the front-seat passengers were amazed at the level of bitchiness that could come from the back-seat
HAHAHA

WHAT holidays?!

yay....we finally arrive

our house

omg! do you know what asses the meds can be...
some of us were watching a movie on the first nite, and nick was baking chocolate souffle for dessert
and the smell of chocolate wafts towards the living room and i go to kat "mmmm smells like the souffle is almost ready"
and the movie was almost finishing...so we were like 'ah yes, we'll eat it after'
and then....seconds later there's the sounds of clanging spoons
and i'm like "they haven't started have they?!"
and we rush there
and a whole bunch of them are sitting there eating and look up with giant guilty looks on their faces
one by one some of them are like "have some of mine"
because...the freaking souffle was FINISHED
we managed to get a fair amount of it by picking bits off the others
but still
>_<
bah!

Kevvy makes us Toblerones to comfort us

We played mafia for awhile....but i got sick of it coz i drew the mafia card 4 times in a row >_<
that....and irene is THE WORST dead person EVER
hahahaha

and what's a trip without the obligatory staying up till 3am talking session :)
in terms of sleeping arrangements i shared the double bed with kat and irene *cue scandalous music*
LOL

Day 2:
Short trip down to the town of Millawa where we visited the Brown Brothers winery for lunch and also visited the cheese factory and mustard shop

Lunch consisted of several dishes, each with their own wines
food was mediocre in that it wasn't anything super great to rave about... sure it was tasty, but i sooo wouldn't bother driving all the way there for it

the dessert wines i couldn't get enough of...the others....not so much

Omg!!! Dora literally ran over Jem's foot with her car... she thought he was joking when he started to grab his foot and yell.... the boy who cries wolf really does exist

Day 3:
Journeyed up to Falls Creek and spent the day at the snow (hey anna i got to wear my romper stompers....w00t!)
the weather was fantabulous
and towards the end of the day it was fully snowing
yay!

Driving up was really pretty too, it was like driving through Narnia

memorable part of the day was when i was doing one of my final trips down the toboggan slope.... and i successfully swerved to avoid 3 people and then there was this little kid just standing directly in my path...and i was like "Nooooo!! Mooooove!"
and he just stared at me
and i fully just ran right into him and knocked him right over
the girls were standing like 10m away behind him
and the look of horror on their faces was priceless
LOL

here, we re-enacted it with Tiff as the child

look of horror....well obviously it was much better than this

tobogganing is uber fun....but the walk back up the hill is such a biatch >_<
they should totally build a chair lift for the tiny hill :p

mmmmmm...icicle water

anyhoo
just for margie
fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighting in the snow :p

that nite we were playing kevvy's crazy faux cranium board game
and our team was fully pants-ing hui chen's team
then they started to catch up
but that's ok...because in the end WE WON
bwahahahaha

WINNAHS!!!

Day 4:
Back to Melbourne
mmmmm not much to say
it was super foggy on the way back
and the boys are sooooo random

how funny....the only the n00b's face got blurried up

super foggy

i think they fit 8 of them on it....

bah sorry about the crappy post
it's super hard to blog about trips
there's too many things that happen
and then by the end of the trip stuff that happened on the first day feels like it happened 5 million years ago

anyhoo
all up it appears we took 1050 photos on my camera.... but alot of them aren't even of like....me
actually it's quite tiring being the apparenty designated photo taker
every 5 seconds i hear "Steeeeeeeeeph....take a photo of *insert object or place or person*"

Back!

Just back from the Med trip to Bright
sleep debt: too many hours
blood alcohol level: the lowest it's been in days
camera: 1GB memory card is FULL
memories: toooooo many :p

the trip was fantabulous
i love the meddies

i'll do a more detailed post tomorrow when i'm not so sleepy
and also maybe put up some photos.... which will take ages, coz i have to go through nearly 1000 (yes, really..... 1000) to decide which to upload

Monday, July 16, 2007

Yummy!

The glennies had a dessert nite tonite
and it was oh-so-tasty
so great to catch up with some of the boys i haven't seen in ages

best quote of the nite
"yea you'd float....wait....well not if you had clothes on"

photos :)

Applause for actually baking!

Boooooo....cheater!

Mmmmm...cheater...but the sticky date pudding was so good... I'll let it slide :p

It's santa!

Glenny nites are always fun

but you know what else is fun?
a med trip!
off to bright with the meds tomorrow....well...more like in a few hours

so no updates for awhile :)

Sunday, July 15, 2007

Argh.....my myofibrils

2 days later and i'm still paying the price for boxing with the girls
*groan*
my arms and back aaaaaaaaaaaaache

and it wasn't even real boxing :(

bleh!

med trip to Bright tomorrow
i have yet to pack
i'm too achy to pack
someone come pack for me
lol

13th....of the Friday sort

bam bam baaaaaaaaaaaaam
it's Friday the 13th today

alas no super fascinating plans
it's all cold and bleh
and i feel like perhaps i should pack for the med trip
but i just cbf

end of my elective today
didn't do anything of interest in terms of neurology today
opting instead to end my day in theatre with one of my favorite anaesthetist
100% success rate on cannulations today
happy is me

my phone is oh-so-far away
i'm getting so bad at replying to messages
i tend to read them while i'm on the way to something
and then make a note to reply later....
later being.... the next day
LOL

ah well

Tee-Bee

OMG
my mantoux returned with a reading of 25mm
it's grown 15mm since my last reading in 2003
bam bam baaaaaaaaaaaaaaam

which means i have a chest x-ray and all it's accompanying ionising radiation to look forward to

BAH

*sweat beads*

So results came out today
this knowledge sat with me while i purposefully busied myself with clinic all morning
well not really...
i was clinic-ing anyway
and semi-remembered just before lunch time
hahahaha

so it wasn't a total disaster
*thumbs up*
and i'm not curled up in a heap crying
*thumbs up*
haha

all signs look good ;p

nah just kidding
i'm so proud of everyone
as far as i know no one (not even hui chen) is curled up and crying
so big kudos to us all!!!

in other news
our groups for the children's rotation came out
on the upside: i get to spend my whole children's block in RCH
on the downside: kat got sent away to Austin *cries*
on the super downside: kat got stuck with Mr. Annoying and Ms. Lights-are-on-but-nobody's-home
upside: she's less likely to resort to physical violence to deal with them than i am

George isn't at home.....leave a message at the beep

Have y'all seen that episode of Seinfeld where George gets insulted during a meeting by a co-worker
but he can't think of a comeback
and then he thinks of one later
and goes through an elaborate scheme to try get the guy to insult him again just so he can say his comeback

it's like that alot in life isn't it
an event passes
and you think about it
and you're like
'omg.... i should sooooo have said that'

that being said happily i don't have alot of these moments
because when provoked i tend not to engage brain before mouth
and therefore say what i want

which actually means usually i end up going 'oh i *shouldn't* have done that'

*usually*

but i've found myself thinking about a recent situation
and i'm like 'bah! should soooo have said this.... or done that'
>_<

Growing up

look ma! no hands!
well not really
but i'm all proud of myself today
as part of my elective application process i have to go get my immunity checked
which of course...means needles
and y'all know i HATE needles (receiving them that is..... if you want to go nit pick about the fact i revel in poking patients)

anyhoo
so i went down to pathology today
and got poked TWICE
got my blood taken
AND did a Mantoux

and i didn't scream or make a fuss
i was all yay with the grown-upness

*of course it didn't hurt that i did my tests at RCH....where they deal with kiddies all day so i assume they poke good*
LOL

07/07/07 *bam bam baaaaam*

So yesterday's date was 07/07/2007
or as people liked to think of it 07/07/07
there was all this hoo-ha in newspapers about all these people that booked out churches etc just to get married on this particular date
something about an auspicious beginning
bwahahahaha

reminds me of the conversation we had with mel not long ago about asian people rushing to get married on 08/08/08
probably with a wedding at 8am and a reception at 8pm
LOL

anyhoo
what did i do with *my* 07/07/07?
i woke up early so i could go to the austin and help bulldog the trial FRACP exams
which involved leading candidates around while they did their exams
it's quite cool coz u get to sit in on their exams and see how it's done etc....

also quite cool because majority of the bulldogs were from our group
haha
so it was just a little social session as well
we went out for lunch at sofia's after
which was soooooooooooo filling.... and lasted for soooooooo long

photos thanks to irene:

Mmmmm
what else did i do yesterday?
well nothing else i'll write about

but i will say i awoke today feeling not that great
which really pisses me off
because i've managed to avoid this crap for so long
and now it's just come around unexpectedly and bitten me in the ass

we overthink too much...
>_<

lunch with the girls today helped ease my mind

meeting margie tonite will do good too :)

Holidays?

So it's the end of my first official week of "holidays"
which of course has been spent holed up in RCH...
i'm not complaining too much... i mean yes i'd like more sleep
but hey...i do enjoy myself when i'm there
but i've decided to do only 2 weeks instead of the initial 3
i think i do need to take a proper break like everyone keeps telling me to do

haven't done much this week
squeezed in a bit of shopping and socialising around my elective

apparently my lifegroup believes my catch phrase is 'alas'
i'm greatly amused

hopefully meeting up with margie on the weekend....together with the rest of the glennies who i haven't seen in way too long

it's all cold and rainy
i hate it
i love being indoors when it's cold and rainy
but i hate having to wake up early and wait for trains and trams when it's cold and rainy >_<

it's meant to be cold and rainy tomorrow too
not happy

thought of the moment:
random smses make me smile

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

uhhh... i wanted to work i swear

there weren't any clinics or department meetings today
so i didn't spend the day with the neurologists
instead i spent the morning in theatre flitting between neurosurgery (Mmmmm...hemispherectomy) and ortho (mmmm....scoliosis surgery)
and falling more in love with anaesthetics

so funny
in the middle of the neurosurgery.... the anaesthetist was talking about those terrorist suspects that were arrested.... and apparently one of them was a neurosurgeon, and another was a neurologist
and he was just bagging them
"oh! so that explains why the bomb didn't go off.... neurosurgeon and neurologist"
it was so funny
the neurosurgeon was like "stop making me laugh!" (which was actually semi-scaring coz she was doing microsurgery at that point...and i could see her tiny tools shaking coz she was laughing)

anyhoo
there was nothing in the afternoon
so i wandered out at lunch time to have lunch with hangerseseseseses
i wanted to go to the nasi lemak place i saw while still in AMS but never got around to trying... but when we got there it'd closed down :(
sadness is me

after he went back to work....
i went shopping
*blush*
and i bought a fair few things
*blush*

i bought new knee-high boots
I'M SO HAPPY

hahaha
*sigh*
terrible

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
*nostril flare*

i often forget that there's that unspoken rule that whatever you tell your girlfriends has the right to be automatically transmitted to their significant others unless you tell them not to

BAH

not happy

I missed you

started my paeds neurology elective today
walking into RCH
i realised i've really missed it
so many memories as i walked down the hall
*nostalgic tear*

spent the morning on rounds and in clinic
saw some rare-ass metabolic disorders
and some stupid-ass parents ("can't i just go to america and put stem cells in her brain?")

i do adore neuro
but i don't see myself getting to actually *do* anything of interest during this elective
i'll have to be content with seeing interesting things
which i am

tomorrow i'll go read the history of the kid with Moya Moya
and the kid with Crigler Najjar
*skips away merrily*

actually i'm really tired
couldn't sleep last nite
stupid nap in the afternoon.....just totally screwed up my sleep cycle
and.... i had other things on my mind :p

Sunday, July 01, 2007

No sudden movements....

Shhhh
i'm still a little dazed and confused
am currently recovering from the craziest weekend i've had in ages...
all in celebration of the end of exams...uhhh...of course :)

crap-loads of photos
hmmm
so i'll just do this segment by segment

Friday

So after much whining, begging, guilt-tripping and just plain evilness i finaly caved and decided to join simon for his cocktail degustation nite

sweeeeet revenge simone

every single imaginable bottle of alcomohol dangled over the bar

Winston and Amy.....our drinking buddies for the night

so this was our degustation menu for the night

Course 1: Turkish apple ice...
Verdict: perfectly delicious.... but i'm partial to turkish apple tea :p

Course 2: Negroni air...
Verdict: campari is a biatch.... that being said, after i got over the horrid bitterness the nano-second of citrus tang was nice...until the bitterness returned >_<so not a negroni fan

Course 3: Reposado tequila and sangrita
Verdict: now i'm usually not a tequila fan...in fact i usually avoid it like the plague.... hence when i was given the instruction to tap a generous sip and swirl it in my mouth.... i was not a happy chap
but surprises of surprise, it was actually pretty good.... apparently i've only previously been exposed to the hobos of tequila-ville and now i've met a proper resident..... also, the sangrita was soooooooo good.... *drool*

see....i was apprehensive

Course 4: Citrus air
Verdict: this one was booze-free for the cleansing of our wretched palates...but wonderfully sour....i love sour.....

Course 5: Agave affogato
Verdict: I abhor coffee....so this was pure torture.... i'm sure for coffee-fans this would actually be pure heaven

Giant thanks to simon :)
yes i *did* have fun

alrite...
so after all the cocktails
onward to the next venue...
the Med post-exam party
it was at F4 (again)
and when i got there....there was an ambulance up front
apparently some dude fell and dislocated his knee in the club
anyhoo
just as i'm going in
the dudes friends like swarmed the bouncers yelling and stuff
apparently the thought management didn't handle the whole situation well...and were very vocal about it
i was semi-afraid i was gonna get stabbed

anyhoo
as usual the med post-exam party was rockin'
company is always great at these things
and the music was pretty good
the only bad thing was seeing stupid friends smoking when they usually don't >_<
quasi-packed

OMG sooooo funny....this white dude was one of many trying to pick angel up

which resulted in jemaly having to help her out...

LOL

and....omg...IS THIS JIA JIA GETTING PICKED UP?!?!
*ROFLMAO*

stupid jemaly

birthday girl (how i envy her presents!)

i have.....nothing to say
HAHAHAHA

HAHAHA...these drunk white guys were like "hey! take our photo!"

anyhoo
because the girls hate F4
and i promised i'd go out with them
at around midnight the plan was to go to QBH
but when i left F4 and got ready to make my way there
they ring up and go "let's go to Loft instead.....QBH is too.....non-asian"
and there were no trams
and i was pretty boozed up
then i had to wander all the way from flinders st to Loft
and by the time i got there i was all sober
BAH

and then....the line was....well not long
but there were like all these guys in front of us

look at us wait in line :(

we got sick of waiting after awhile
and because *someone* wouldn't take one for the team (the discussion of which was very amusing to the guy in front of us)
i had to go sweet-talk the bouncer
which worked out well
because we got waved right in
YAY

Loft was much more packed

ok....so this was the most disturbing part of our nite
there was this blond chick with the white guy in the picture
and then she was like "go dance with him!" to jing
and chi asked her if the dude was her boyfriend
and she was like all "yea...but i don't care"
AND THEN...later on i think she was trying to grab chi
so we made our way aaaaaway from there

actually....equally disturbing was when there was a group of guys that semi-surrounded us... then started like...closing in.... and i was getting really antsy
so we got the hell out of there

i have no idea why that girl's crotch is in this pic.... i swear

Chi is tired...

but that won't stop her from dancing :p

anyhoo
the music there was pretty crap
so we left at 3ish

Saturday

oh so funny....
on saturday morning anna and i woke up
and i woke up feeling really rested and it was pretty bright
so we thought it was like...10 or something at least
but then we looked at the clock
and it was 8.30
and we were like
screw this!
and went back to sleep
HAHAHA

we loitered in the apartment watching endless reruns of the simpsons while waiting for dylan to come back
and the girls amused themselves with trying to make a new outfit for me

so i left all my spare clothes at angel's
and had to sleep in a giant GIANT shirt
seriously
it's huge
look at it

it's freaking huge.... i'm swimming in it....

anyhoo
so they wanted to make it into a shirt-dress
have a look

you like?
it was *so tempting* to wear it out
HAHAHAHA

thank goodness dylan eventually returned
so we went to chinatown for lunch
lunch at 3pm
which of course meant that our plans to shop were quite limited
and our plans to go to the city DFO actually meant we went to bourke st
HAHAHA
but hey, we still got shopping done
hurrah for new dress and top :p

chi was lazy
so we got noodle box for dinner
which were the most oily noodles...EVER

anna is displeased at the chopsticks

look at the oil >_<

some of dylan's friends came over to pre-drink before we went out

AGWA BOMBS..... gawd this is one of my new favorite drinks

yeeees...work those bubble sleeves

by the time we finally left to go to boulevard it was almost 11
and it was rainy
so anna and i were walking pretty fast
and chi was trailing behind coz she insisted on wearing her heels (i *told* you to wear ur runners!)
so yes
we're walking
and then i hear an "AHHHHH!"
from behind us
and i turn around and chi's grabbing her ankle
it appears the perils of an uneven sidewalk resulted in an ankle twist
so we hobbled to one side while a bunch of smoking dudes tried to be helpful

chi the brave soldier that she is....decided to carry on
so onwards we went
and when we got there....
the lines were huuuuuuuge

but guess who i saw in line?
most unexpectedly

Steeeeeeeeeeevie

can't ever have a normal face >_<

amusing ourselves in the line

thankfully we had 4 girls and 1 guy
so we pushed our way past all the guys in front of us
and convinced the bouncer to let us in
w00t

but before we could get happy
the line for the cloak room was JUST AS LONG
and it was alllll girls
which meant it was getting catty near the end
*shudder*

so after all the carfarfle and lining up....
it was like.... 12.30 before we even got to start
and OMG boulevard was sooooo packed
like crazy packed
you could barely turn around
it was CRAZY

this was the pack-ness at like....3.30am O_O

the westalls were there too

Saaaaaaarith

hot jimmy :p

Carlo

anna was ooooooold
reeeeally early on in the nite she got SLEEPY
(even though she'd had a nap in the afternoon >_<)
she says it was because she was becoming a 'sleepy drunk'
but i say she was just old.....she barely drank!

anyhoo....chi *and* anna were ooooooold
so we left before 4 :(

by now...chi's ankle was causing her great distress

we had to support her as she hobbled back
it looked like she was drunk.... but she wasn't
and then she had to go choose this freaking road to walk on

it's like she hates herself
LOL

look at her clutch her ankle when she woke up this morning

GAWD
this was a freaking long post (so long i had to nap in the middle of it...HAHAHA)
y'all better be grateful
it took AGES to put all these photos up >_<

there's more photos on facebook if u want :)

oh! and big thanks to angel and gracie who let abuse their parking spot *and* fed me with cookies/muffins
you rock!
